I'm excited about the Small Press Book Fair next weekend. The last time I attended was in 1990, I think, and it was wonderful. And now it's right on the block where I work. I was a lot more involved in the book world then, so this time will be much different, and will probably make me sad that I no longer have a library of my own, and that Nance sold the bookstore. In any case, the readings will be good, and I have to think of how I'll scrape up some bucks to buy stuff from the exhibitors. (Tempted to sell my SLR since I've just been using the digital camera, and would like to get a Leica later on.) Paris Review writers will be reading, and George Plimpton will be there -- would love to get a look at the fellow ... Is he for real? There should be underground publishers, too, with good anti and alt stuff. Book arts, too.

HOW TO ACT FOR PEACE: For information about upcoming U.S. rallies, marches, and events see www.unitedforpeace.org and www.pax.protest.net. Make your voice heard by contacting your elected officials (www.congress.org). Join the Cities for Peace campaign -- over 100 cities and counties have already have already passed antiwar resolutions, but NYC sure isn't one of them ... shame on us. Sign an online call or petition: MoveOn.org urges letting inspections work; the Campaign for Peace and Democracy calls for a foreign policy that opposes both Saddam Hussein and an invasion of Iraq; Pledge of Resistance calls for civil disobedience in the event of an unprovoked attack on Iraq; Code Pink urges "Listen to the Women."
Other actions: The Win Without War coalition is sponsoring cyberactivism and creative war advertising. Check out Poets Against the War, and the No War Sign project. And see the Nation's antiwar web page for Nation weblogs, articles, columns, editorials, and web reports as well as activist and educational links -- That's where I got the above info.
